Mr. Jorge Benavides
Chairman of the Board of Directors
Mr. Benavides has over 30 years’ experience in the mining industry and is currently President, CEO and Director of Zincore Metals Inc, a Peruvian-focused base metal exploration and mine development company. Prior to joining Zincore , Jorge was an independent consultant and Senior Advisor to the Chairman of Hochschild Mining PLC. He was with Hochschild from 2001 through 2008, guiding the Company’s exploration programs and was a key member of the senior executive team that oversaw Hochschild ‘s rapid growth into one of the world’s premier silver mining companies. Prior to Hochschild, Jorge spent eight years working for Phelps Dodge Mining Company in South America, including serving as Exploration Manager for the Andean Region. Jorge is currently on the Board of Directors of ECI Exploration and Mining Inc. and Pembrook Mining Corp., both private Canadian exploration companies. Mr. Benavides holds a M.Sc. in Ore Deposits and Exploration from Stanford University and a B.Sc. in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
Mr. Brian Maher
President, CEO and Director
Mr. Maher is an economic geologist with over 34 years of experience in the international mining and exploration industry. Most recently, Mr. Maher was the President, CEO and Director of Prodigy Gold Inc. where he guided the company through a period of expansive growth, culminating in the $341M acquisition of Prodigy Gold by Argonaut Gold in 2012. Mr. Maher received his BA degree (Geology) from the California State University, Chico in 1980 and his MSc. degree (Economic Geology) from Colorado State University in 1983. In 1982, Mr. Maher began a 16-year career with ASARCO Inc. Mr. Maher initiated, designed and supervised exploration programs for gold and copper deposits in a variety of geologic environments throughout North and South America. From 1998 through 2002, Mr. Maher operated a successful geologic consulting business, emphasizing geologic modeling, resource estimation and business planning, to multiple junior, mid-size and large mining organizations. Between 2002 and 2004 Mr. Maher was Project Manager for Metallic Ventures Gold Inc., supervising underground and surface exploration, mine development and operations at an underground gold mine in Nevada. In 2005, Mr. Maher joined Hochschild Mining PLC. At Hochschild, Mr. Maher was involved in all aspects of the company’s North American exploration program, serving as the Exploration Manager for the US, Canada and Mexico. Responsibilities at Hochschild included supervision of exploration and mine development programs, economic analysis of acquisition candidates and developing new corporate strategies.
Mr. Brian Imrie
Between 2009 and 2012, Mr. Imrie was Partner and Global Head of Mining M & A for KPMG Corporate Finance and was responsible for creating an integrated global mining advisory team based in over ten countries unseeing in excess of $500M in mining transactions. Prior to KPMG Mr. Imrie was Managing Director and Co-Head of M & A for National Bank Financial for seven years (2001-2008) and was responsible for numerous high profile mining transactions including the sale of Fording Coal to Teck Resources. Mr. Imrie has also worked with Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse; he received his MBA from Harvard University in 1987 and his BA from the University of Toronto in 1983.
Mr. Felix Navarro-Grau Hurtado
Mr. Navarro Grau has over 20 years’ experience in the mining and exploration industry. He has been in charge of developing the mining business of Consorcio Minero Horizonte S.A. (“Horizonte”), the fifth largest gold producer (second underground) in Peru with production in excess of 220,000 ounces a year and a consolidated group of mining properties under exploration. Mr. Navarro Grau headed Horizonte underground mining operations in the Parcoy mine, developing it from 200 mtd to 1500 mtd. Mr. Navarro Grau, as CEO of Desafio Minero S.A., was also in charge of developing the exploration activities of HORIZONTE, consolidating an important group of mining projects. He participated in multiple negotiations, acquisitions, and development of precious metal and base metal projects. Mr. Navarro-Grau is a director of several private companies in Perú and currently resides in Lima, Perú
Mr. Diego de la Torres de la Piedra
Diego de la Torre is co-founder of La Viga, the largest building materials distribution company in Peru. Mr. de la Torre has, in part, been able to achieve such considerable success because his ability to build cultural and business bridges between the Andean migrants from the highlands and the “western” sector of the Peruvian society. He developed the intangible assets of his company that allowed the design of a structure, culture and business process that have become benchmarks in the industry. He is also founder of Quikrete Peru, a joint venture with an American company that has led and pioneered the production and development of dry ready mix concrete in the Peruvian market. Recently, he has entered the hotel industry with his participation in the Hotel B in Lima.
Mr de la Torre was also Professor of Business at the Universidad del Pacífico in Lima. His research interests included the dynamics of start-ups and how to foster trust, understanding and ethical business relationships. He is an international speaker in the subjects of corporate strategy and intangible assets management. In 2002, he was invited by the Canadian government to make a presentation about corporate social responsibility at the Organization of American States in Washington D.C. Recently, he published the book “Buenaventura, the first Peruvian company with full listing in the New York Stock Exchange”. In 2007, he was president of CADE, the most important business event in Peru. He has a monthly column at the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio in Lima. Diego currently resides in Lima, Perú.
